Why do I need a survey?

It is obvious to most people that it is prudent to have a survey carried out on a property which you are purchasing. Quite a significant proportion of purchasers, however, still do not heed the warnings of surveyors, mortgage advisors, solicitors etc., and do not have an independent survey carried out on their prospective purchase by a qualified surveyor.

It is our view that some form of survey should be carried out on every type of property. The type of survey required is dependant upon the age, size and location of the building. This is explained in more detail later.

Clearly, it is primarily a surveyor's task to draw to your attention to:-
1. The significant defects which exist in a building
2. How these defects may affect other parts of the building
3. To advise on what has to be carried out to remedy certain defects
4. What the future maintenance liability is likely to be.

You may need this information to re-negotiate your offer price.
